Franklin Armstrong made his debut as a Peanuts comic strip character in the hot summer of 1968, in the middle of the huge social turmoil and racial protest of the time, carrying an unwritten message that spoke volumes.
Too little has changed since then, I see. But no sermons here: I simply drew a little homage to our pal Franklin, to invite You donate to the @naacp, sign their #georgefloyd petition and invite You to be always the decent people on the good side of history ❤️

@vitaconlloyd (Life with Lloyd) is a surreal collection of bittersweet dialogues between a man and his imaginary butler, Lloyd. It started as facebook page an then became a series of best-selling books and a pop culture phenomenon.
Being me and his author, Simone, longtime friends and having seen every step of the project since its birth, it was time for me to homage it with a little illustration, inspired by mid-century editorial art, in the vein of the series’ retro, wordly, comedic touch. ☕️🎩

Got to homage the classic #EttoreVitale iconic #carnation poster for the celebrations of #25Aprile 1982, by Partito Socialista Italiano.
The original poster, swipe for it, is still so good I felt I could only, humbly, walk closely on his footprints.
Happy Liberation Day, fellow italians, stay strong as our grandparents did. 🇮🇹

Happy birthday, Rome!
You’ll survive even this dark times, as You did countless times before.

Between the current, pressing, deadlines i’ve managed to design the small label for the #ghostsofrome project, to be applied on the marbled paper folders which will collect the seven prints.
Latin inscription below the she-wolf, symbol of Rome, means “The tears of men cannot bring the dead back from the darkness”. The couple of #skulls below her are an obvious nod to Romolus and Remus.
Next is a #wip shot of the process. 🐺 💀💀

-
Got some quarantined extra-time to work on a personal project after a while, getting back to my roman #ghosts after years.
-
The new character of my #ghostsofrome project is Valeria #Messalina .
Third wife of Emperor Claudius, sentenced to death by him because of cheating on him and after an increasing spiral of political hatred due to her plots and commissioned killings. The hatred on her was so big that the rumors and gossips they originated about her conduct made her name synonymous of depravation and amorality, still to this day. Stabbed at the throat by an Emperor’s emissary while she was hiding in the Lucullo’s gardens, her desperate ghost still wanders in those places, today part of Villa Medici’s gardens.
-
Background of this is inspired by one of the villa’s views painted during the 17th century by the great #Velazquez 🏛👻

Quarantine gave me, at least, time to get back on my beloved folk project #ghostsofrome , after more than two years since the last subject.
The new one haunts us straight from the eternal city’s antiquity.

De Chirico live-painting in an italian TV broadcast.
Go on the link in bio and let me know in the comments your toughts. 📚

“Hic nihil me tangere”, latin for “from here nothing can hurt me”. That’s the motto on a #stylite themed skateboard deck I did years ago for an exhibition in Milan.
-
Stylites, or “pillar saints”, were among the early christiantity saints, chosing to self-isolate themselves on the top of ruined pillars, mostly in the actual syrian/turkish deserts, to prevent themselves from the evils of the world and live in constant meditation.
-
My country is fighting a hard fight, self isolating itself to defeat a #coronavirus mass pandemic. Let’s do this together, let’s stay focused and positive. Stay safe, stay strong, use this isolation time to do something meaningful and find some peace. 💪🏻🇮🇹

“Can a niche liquor like #genepy become a drinking landmark?” This is the focus of the piece i have illustrated for the current issue of @gambero_rosso . It’s about young entrepreneurs in #valledaosta working hard to make a niche local #liquor made of #alpine herbs become an estabilished national product.

This year i have worked with @mccann_mw for the interface design of the brand new @mastercarditalia Bistro, the first cash-less restaurant in Italy, located in the international airport of Rome Fiumicino.
I have produced a set of spot illustrations, people and ingredients, to narrate the roman traditional cuisine and its #history on the interactive digital menu-tables.
A funny and challenging project.
AD by Alessio Bianconi.

Happy Holidays!

This time my non-catholic holiday card is dedicated to one of the oldest and most syncretic figures of western festivities, the #Befana
Its origins are unsure and the myth dates back to the night of times, one of the most common interpretation tends to assimilate her to the #Saturn the elder myth but in a female form, probably associated with goddess Diana (hence the crescent #moon i’ve places on her forehead).
-
A figure symbolizing the death of the old year with her crone appeareance and the rebirth in the new one with the distribution of gifts. Even elder traditions told stories of magical female figures flying over the winter fields, making them fertile for the next season (this probably explains the flying broom of the Befana). What is sure about her is that the Befana is Rome’s oldest and most beloved, present, holiday figure; she’s awaited every 6th of January to bring children coal or sweets and fruits, depending on if they’ve behaved good or bad during the past year.
-
Her celebration closes with a bang the traditional italian #holidays calendar in a magical, somewhat spooky, way.
-
Again, happy Holidays everyone!

This month, 60 years ago, The Twilight Zone premiered on CBS, changing television and fantastic narrative forever since.
Rod Serling’s brainchild spanned 60 years, defining along the way, with many incarnations, new landscapes of fantasies, speculations and fears, bringing humanity’s questions and anxieties in prime-time televison, introducing some of the best sci-fi authors to a wide audience and questioning what is reality and what really matters, then.

I’m not used to the pop-culture celebrations, but I had time to draw a little homage to something that truly shaped my imagination and, to some extent, my morals.

Thank you Mr Serling, and cheers forever to the Twilight Zone. 🚪👁🕰
